Welcome
SummerintheFingerLakes.org is the website for a six-museum collaborative project exploring the past, present, and future of enjoying…summer in the Finger Lakes! (Note: This site does not offer current tourism information, i.e. lodging, restaurants and attractions. See the Resources page for some good links for that.)
These museums – Geneva Historical Society, Ontario County Historical Society, Yates County Genealogical & Historical Society, Cayuga Museum of History & Art, The History Center in Tompkins County, and Chemung Valley History Museum – came together to create exhibits that explore different aspects of leisure history in the Finger Lakes region. What makes this region special for so many people? Some things are common to any vacation destination while others are influenced by the area’s geography and history.
This website provides a brief overview of the six exhibit topics. Debuting in 2007, these exhibits will be rotating among the partner museums and throughout the region in the coming years.
The current exhibit sites are:
- Presentations of Native Americans: The History Center in Tompkins County at Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport
- Summer Work: Geneva Historical Society through September 27th
- Summer Food: Ontario County Historical Society
- Public Access: Yates County Genealogical & Historical Society
- Summer Homes: Chemung Valley History Museum
- Growing Up: Cayuga Museum of History & Art
Check back here for a calendar of when and where the exhibits will be. We also have a space to share your vacation memories.
Come back often, and we hope to see you at the exhibits!
